Obama's Final Year in Pictures Will Leave You an Emotional Wreck

Jan 2 2017 - 6:25pm

Pete Souza, the official White House photographer, and his team released their picks for the best White House pictures of 2016 on Thursday, and it's an apt gallery for a turbulent year. But, the gallery, which was posted to Medium [1], shows that amid the lows, there was levity.

The editing process favored intimacy over recognition. "There are some historic moments included," Souza wrote, "but mostly I was looking for behind-the-scenes moments that give people a more personal look at the President and First Lady." Indeed, unless you follow Souza on Instagram [2], you might not have seen these before [3]. The collection is also bittersweet, as it's the last from Obama's administration. "I hope you enjoy this final Year in Photographs of the Obama administration," Souza wrote. "It's been the honor of a lifetime to be a witness to history these past eight years."

Take a look at a few below and head to Medium [4] for the full album with Souza's captions.
