President Obama Made a Powerful Statement About Hillary Clinton That All Men Need to Hear

President Obama campaigned for Hillary Clinton in Columbus, OH, on Tuesday, and he had some frank words for men as they head to the voting booth. Referring to the apparent hesitation to vote for Clinton simply because she is a woman — whether it's a conscious decision or not — Obama urged some men to reassess their qualms with the qualified former secretary of state. "You know, there's a reason why we haven't had a woman president before," Obama emphasized.

Addressing the men in the audience directly, Obama said, "I want every man out there who's voting to kinda look inside yourself and ask yourself, well, if you're having problems with this stuff, how much of it is, you know, that we're just not used to it?"

Obama then spoke more bluntly. "When a guy's ambitious and out in the public arena and working hard, well, that's OK. But when a woman suddenly does it, suddenly you're all like, 'Well, why is she doing that?' I'm just being honest."

The president also denounced how Donald Trump's transgressions have become so frequent and so absurd, they no longer shock us. "Don't act like this is normal. This is not your typical election," Obama said. "The problem is that things have become so polarized that people start talking themselves into, 'Maybe it's not so bad,' but it is."

The double standard between Clinton and Trump is not a new phenomenon — Obama is merely stressing its relevance as the two candidates have crept closer together in polls. And with the election less than a week away, it's important to recognize the affect implicit biases have on voters.
