Celebrate National Cookie Day With North!

Hooray for National Cookie Day! All too often, I can't find the time to bake up special snacks for myself but, when I do have a moment to spare, I love making treats for North. After all, that keeps me safe from those extra calories! I'm not a fan of preparing food that involves meat so this recipe is still a surefire hit with me. . . and with my lil' guy. With only four ingredients, no extra trip to the store is needed!

Simple Simon's Birthday Bones

From the Three Dog Bakery Cookbook

2 cups whole-wheat flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 cup natural peanut butter
1 cup skim milk

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a bowl, combine flour and baking powder. In another bowl, mix peanut butter and milk. Add wet mixture to dry, and mix well. Turn out dough on a lightly floured surface and knead. Roll out to 1/4-inch thick and cut out shapes. Place on a greased baking sheet and bake 20 minutes or until lightly brown. Cool on a rack then store in an airtight container.

I got this cookbook as a Christmas present last year from my dog. It's been a big hit with us both.

I just made my first batch of doggy cookies, and Harley is crazy happy. Her sign of approval is to play with the cookie, eat the cookie, and then rub her face on the floor. My suggestion is the same as any rolled cookie, watch the dough as you add the flour. You may not need as much as is called for. My dough did not stick together while rolling so I added a little more peanut butter. I know a lot of dogs that will be getting these cookies for Christmas.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Three Dog Bakery! The cookbook is a scream and their ready-made treats are the ones we go looking for!!! Our cutie-pie Hudson loves their treats, especially the Ribs and Vanilla Woofers! To find outside their stores and website however can be difficult. Right now we can find them at certain Kroger stores. Target used to carry them but no more. Petco was supposed to be carrying them, but ours do not :(

Haha this is great! I took my 1st dog down to the Three Dog Bakery when they still had one in the state and baked them stuff all the time when they were puppies...until they started snubbing my food! :(
