Clean Teeth With a Brush?

Back when North was still a rascally pup, his "gamma" (aka, my mother) sent me a doggie toothbrushing set as a present. Before I could get down to the business of snatching him, my phone rang. I had already put the puppy paste on the brush, set it on the coffee table, and came back to a chewed-up toothbrush. Oops. Guess he liked the toothpaste flavor though the brush itself wasn't salvageable. For February's Dental Health month, I've provided some toothbrushing tips, dental chews, and mints for your furry friend, but now I want to get the real scoop from you! For my anonymous poll, I'm curious how often you actually brush your pet's teeth in the traditional manner, in addition to providing all those other options.

My cats won't let me brush their teeth. They are incredibly well-behaved when I'm cleaning their ears, clipping their claws, and bathing them, but when it comes to brushing their teeth, they just keep pushing the toothbrush out with their tongues. I use tooth wipes on occasion, but they don't like that either. They get dentals every six months at the Vet. I HATE doing it because it requires them to be anesthetized and away from me (although my Vet is really good about allowing us to be there every step of the way and the process doesn't involve caging at all), it's just not good to keep putting them under. Unfortunately, I can't find another product that keeps their teeth clean. One of them is even on "pulse treatment" which is a week of antibiotics every month to keep his mouth sterile, yet his teeth still get bad.

When my Emma Katt was living, she used to LOVE having her teeth brushed. It was sort of a game. A few times per week I would yell "Emma want Sponge Bob?" And she would run like a rocket to me knowing that her Sponge Bob Square Pants kiddy toothbrush was going to "play" with her teeth! Not a replacement for regular vet dentals, but it helped to stretch the time between professional cleanings.

We brush everyday but I hate that brush. Does not fit in my smaller breeds mouth well.

we brush ours every night too. we used to do it a couple times a week or here or there but we've had Hank in for two dentals already and he's not even 5, they've even had to pull some teeth. but we resolved to not let that happen again. evelyn is a big rawhide chewer so doesn't have the build up that hanks does, but she still gets the brushins'.

our dogs chew nylabones and that seems to keep the tartar down. the vet has never said that they needed their teeth cleaned. in fact, one of my dogs did have a tartar problem until he started chewing the bones and now it is all gone. so, i think it works quite well. let me also say that we have big dogs that really like to chew.

I use the water additive and brush Fuji's teeth. I try to brush Fuji's teeth when I brush my own before bed. Fuji usually knows what the deal is and will follow me into bathroom.

i'm currently looking for a new vet so I can get his teether cleaned. I slacked off for a while and need to get back on the ball. He hates it SO much though! Has anyone heard of laser cleaning at the vet? I heard someone mention it recently

Cuba gets his first teeth cleaning next month. Once we do that I am going to get the water additive and the chews. It is so expensive to get his teeh cleaned that I do not want to have to do it again.

that's just too gross on our 10 year old lab, sorry! I do give him lots of those bones that are supposed to remove tartar, though!
