Are You and Your Pets Prepared For a Natural Disaster?

Sep 18 2015 - 7:45am

It's already been 10 years since Hurricane Katrina wreaked havoc on the US, and despite the large number of people affected and amount of damage done, ASPCA reports that 35 percent of pet owners still don't have plans in place for the next big storm to hit. Because September is National Preparedness Month, the ASPCA put together a guide for being prepared for disasters when you have pets in your home. The organization is also encouraging all pet owners to pledge to be prepared [1] by signing up on the website and sharing the graphic below.

And because many evacuation shelters can't take in pets during an emergency, DogVacay and the American Humane Association have teamed up to create a new disaster relief program [2], going into effect Nov. 1.
