Do You Buy Food in Bulk and Save?

Buying in bulk almost always saves money, but rarely saves space in your house! While some pet parents purchase big bags of food to limit the trips to the store, others choose to shop more frequently to safely store less excess (from nosy noses) or lug lighter loads into their homes. Which type are you?

We buy a large bag because the brand that we buy has a reward program that with your 5th bag or so, you get a free bag.

It's a pain but I do buy the big bags. I have a large container with a lid that I empty one of the bags into, so the food stays fresh.

With 2 dogs, I wish that I could buy the 40+ bags, but my kitchen is so small that I really don't have the space. The 20-40lb. bags do nicely, but I do seem to go through them quickly

Yep, I buy Scout a 40 lb bag of food every couple of months, and I'll only buy Science Diet, Nutro, or Eukanuba - whichever one of those is on sale.

I buy the 25 lb. bag and I have a container to store it in and keep it fresh. I was so sick of going to the store once a week when I bought the smaller bags.

Buy the big bags. I let the boyfriend haul it into the house. That's what they're for! But really, my rottweiler chomps down onhis food and his brother's. And my chihuahua nitpicks unless it's something from my own plate.

A 40-pound bag of dog food goes pretty quickly for us, and we just have one (big) dog! He eats and eats, but he hasn't gained any excess weight, so I don't care.

I buy the small bad of doggie food and mix it with some rice and maybe left over chicken, so it last maybe a little more than month, and keep it in the frige. i wonder if this keeps it fresher longer?

We have a big dog so it makes sense to buy a bigger bag.

Rarely do I give my pup packaged dog food, it's mainly fresh chicken, rice and veggies.

For my big dog, I buy a big bag cause he goes through it pretty fast. My little pooch takes a long time to get through hers, so I buy little 5 lb bags for her so she won't have to eat stale food. The guy at my local pet store told me that dry food starts to lose some of it's nutrients after having been open for about 1 month. I don't know if that's true or not, but I decided to be more conscious of it nonetheless. And we also keep their food in those big tupperware things once we open it, in hopes that it will stay fresh and no pests will get into it.

It is hard to keep Sadie interested in her food. I buy small so that I can rotate.

We bought Ladybird, our 14 lb doxie, a bag of food that was 25 lbs and ended up throwing out the last couple pounds, just because it got old and stale, and we were worried about the bugs.

Cuba is small and it takes him forever to go through a bag of dog food plus to store a 30 pund bag of dog food would be a nightmare!

I try to buy in bulk, not to save money, but because I don't have a car. As a result, I try to make the most of friends' offers to drive me to the store, or the occasional zipcar/car rental.

I always by a small bag of dog food - Gretel eats her food with a little more vigor when it is still fresh.
