The Scoop: First Cat Passes Away

I'm saddened to announce that one of the precious pets of the current first family has passed away – this cute cat died Sunday at the Executive Mansion at the age of 18. The lil girl had many names; she was originally called "India" after the former Texas Ranger baseball player, Ruben Sierra (nicknamed "El Indio"), before the then 9-year-old Barbara Bush renamed her "Willie" when she joined their family. When the twins went off to college in 2000, they left their cat at home in the White House with President and Mrs. Bush where she's lived ever since. Guess they're also fans of multiple pet names for precious pals, as this pet was also commonly called "Kitty" by the first family!

18 is good long life for the kitty! still, always sad when a family loses a furry member.

Sorry but that's just childish CaterpillarGirl. Even if you don't like Bush its sad that his cat died and you're comment's just inappropriate.

I am pretty sure this was Bush's fault.

I didn't even know they had a cat. I just thought they had Barney. Shows how much attention I pay. I'm sorry for every one's kitty losses... :( I'm going to go home and snuggle my kitty now.

Apparently, it wasn't a good weekend for cats. We put ours down Sat. but he was only 8... I know what the Bush's are going through and I feel for them. Its no fun, no fun at all.

I had just recently heard that they had a cat at the White House. How sad for their loss. One year ago this month I had lost my kitty , he was 17 years old. And I was devastated.

Hmm I read somewhere else that the cat was renamed because some people found India offensive. Anyway I didn't know they had a cat until today and that irrationally makes me like their family more, lol I'm sorry for their loss. I've never had a pet live that long but I can only imagine how attached you would be at that point.
