I'm a recovering skinny-fat cardio bunny, who used to survive on 1500/calories a day. Now I keep healthy with less cardio, more heavy weight training, and no isolated ab work (e.g. situps, crunches, etc.)- those types of exercises are a waste of time. I also eat ~2500 calories/day or more, including the occasional donut :). Did I mention that my bodyfat is only 13%? I only say these things about myself, because I want other women to know that it is possible to be fit and look good without starving or spending hours on a treadmill.
