Average Wedding Statistics

What Do You Know About the Average Wedding?

Wedding bills will vary depending on the people and the place, so The Knot questioned 18,000 couples around the US in the largest survey of its kind to determine statistics about the average wedding in 2008. The survey breaks down everything from how much couples spent on wedding cakes to how many people were on the guest list.

By no means are these figures meant to guide your own wedding budget, but it's fun to see how weddings played out for other people. What do you know about the average '08 wedding? Take the quiz!

Only 25%! My wedding was small and intimate. Everyone had a good time and we didn't start out married life under a mountain of wedding debt!

I always wonder if couples would go into city hall to get their marriage license without the engagement. Additionally, Vegas marriage is always an option till both parties could afford better things in life to re-organize a fabulous and expensive wedding with everything planned exactly the way it is envisioned. :)

I suppose a lot has changed! Looks like most brides are inviting less people & spending more per person nowadays. Not sure about the points, but I have noticed comments being deleted.

This is the second time I've taken a quiz today and received no points. Did they do away with the point system?

I'm putting together my wedding right now also and i agree with ella1978, 148 is a low guest count, ours is closer to 200.

I'm putting together my wedding now, so I knew all the money ones.. guessed on the other ones. I think 148 is low on the guest count. That's about what we are having, but I went to three last summer, and all had over 300 guests!

I cannot believe I got them all right. I just randomly guessed on every single question.

50%. Not Bad. It still baffles me that so many women want to spend so much on their wedding dress. I love fashion just as much as the next person, but I'm more of a cost-per-wear girl.

25%! Hahaha. How sad. I agree with gothamgal. I want that money to go towards a trip. The honeymoon, perhaps. I worked in an invitation store for about a year and have dealt with many bridezillas and people who throw their money around on invitations. Because of that, it's helped me know what NOT to do :)

Amazing. I got zero! That underscores my total lack of knowledge about weddings. I believe in spending all that money on a trip. My partner did most of the planning and spending.

After December, I'd guess that February is the most popular month to get engaged.
