Do You Have a Passport?

Although SavvySugar readers say travel is their favorite thing to splurge on, the reality is only 30 percent of Americans hold a passport. The US is so big that it seems like there are too many cities to visit so there may not seem like there's a need to even get one. Further, the process of getting a passport and doing all the paperwork can be quite a hassle. I'm asking: do you have a passport?

I recently convinced a friend of mine to get one. Just in case we get our finances together and travel to Sweden or Canada.

I have an expired one. I needed it for a trip to Europe over a decade ago and haven't needed one since.

I have had a passport since I was seven years old. It still baffles me how such a super majority of Americans live without international travel. However, the argument has been made that Americans do not value international travel as much as Europeans, for instance, because international travel is less accessible here and also because there is a wide variety of sights in the States.

It was only in the last two years that I got my passport (for a trip to Mexico)- the same for my Mom. It would be lovely to travel more but I simply can't afford it.
