Dollar Signs on Kids: Harmless or Horrendous?

This morning I groggily rode the elevator in my apartment building with a man and his cute daughter. She was probably about seven years old and the first thing I noticed was her adorable haircut. The second thing? Her sweatshirt (shown to the left) that stated: Buy Me Stuff and I'll be Nicer. I personally would never spend money on something like this for a child and would probably be more concerned if the child chose it herself. So what do you think of the sweatshirt? Is it harmless or horrendous?

Meh whatever...

Hah. That's the exact sort of attitude that toy, cereal, game (and any other company whose main demographic are children) are capitalizing on. And hey, it's perfect for those parents that would much rather buy off their kids then spend any quality time with them.

Just plain tacky!

i think that it's horrendous. it's sending a bad message to kids - and evne though it's JUST A SHIRT - i think that there are some kids who know what it means and will try that route with their parents.

This stuff is harmless to me. I'm sure she did really just like the bunny.

I think that it goes to show the mentality of many people...the sense of entitlment.... That is why we are in the sitation we are in now. all these foreclorsures, high credit card debt, no savings...the 'value' or the family value of a dollar does not exist anymore. What is this telling seems harmless, just a joke...but how do kids tell the difference? They cant!

the dollar signs dont bother me as much as the phrase. My mom would've slapped the shit outta me if I ever said anything like that. it's like the cartoons on nick & disney....the characters are so rude! cant stand the bratiness.

It's hard enough trying to teach my seven year old the value of a dollar!

seriously, for all of the complaining we do about consumerism and values, we sure are falling short in teaching our kids otherwise! I hate the message and the fact that it is attached to a cute bunny. I would never wear this, or (if I had kids) let them wear it.

Hahahaha, I have this shirt. But of course, I'm not a child, I'm in my 20's... LOL :)

I wouldn't want to see my son wearing something like this...

Happy Bunny is stupid. What is up w/ all these idiots wearing frankly sexual, simply sarcastic, or just stupid "Read-my-t-shirt" shirts? This is how we express ourselves nowadays? On a store-bought slogan-ed T-shirt that would deserve a half-hearted chuckle at best?

Also, I agree with the consensus here: cute for people old enough to understand it's sarcasm; not cute for kids who would take it literally and/or who are brats.

I've personally noticed that children are more concerned with money and material things now more than ever, and they are starting younger & younger. My sister's kids are very conscientious about clothing brands, personal gadgets (games, mp3 players, et cetera), gaming consoles, vehicles, and houses.

I don't think it should be taken too seriously. But I might roll my eyes if I saw this on a particularly bratty kid. On an adult, though, that would be kind of cute and funny. I like Happy Bunny.

The message doesn't worry me. I just think stuff like that is very tacky.

I agree with remedios... I think they're just tacky. I don't like any shirts with messages, really.

I wouldn't purchase it for my family, friends' kids, or my own children. It might just be a shirt, but I think it gives the wrong message. Kids get bombarded with this stuff all the time; they don't need it on their clothes as well.
