Harry Potter Fans, Rejoice! Here's How to Make Your Very Own Nimbus 2000 at Home

We thought we'd seen it all when it comes to Harry Potter DIYs [1], but we've just discovered the most glorious one of them all. If you've always wanted to fulfill your dream of owning the coveted Nimbus 2000, now you can, thanks to one crafty Potterhead. Imgur user eseidel [2] just revealed the step-by-step process for DIYing the beloved broomstick at home. The process is rather lengthy, so this venture is not for the faint of heart (but one can dream!). Roll up your sleeves, Muggles, because we're about to get down to business. Accio elbow grease!

Start by purchasing an eight-by-four piece of mahogany, which translates to a two-inch-thick piece of wood in layman's terms.

Flatten one side of the wooden slab by shaving the surface with a planing tool.

Insert the wood into a planer, which will reduce the thickness of the board.

Next, make your own stencil of the broomstick.

Trace and cut out the broom.

Use your handy-dandy draw knife to shape the broom's tip.

Carefully chip away at the edges.

After rounding out the stick's edges, it's shellac time! Spray the stick with five coats of shellac, sanding between each coat.

Print the signature lettering on green tape, and cut out the letters using a sharp blade.

Tape the stencil to the broom's end, and fill it in using a gold leaf pen.

After that, use a hollow aluminum rod to shape the footrest. Be sure to hammer the ends until they're flat!

Carve out a hole in the broomstick for the footrest to fit.

Then, insert the footrest piece into the hole. Drill two holes through the conjoined wood and metal for added strength.

Fill those two holes with dowels and glue to make sure it's extra secure.

Grab birch branches for bristles, and quickly secure them with duct clamps. Then use framing wire to permanently secure them.

Apply tape around the wires so that the gold paint doesn't get on the bristles.

Paint the coils gold.

And voila! Your Nimbus 2000 is ready for flight!

Enjoy the ride, Potterheads!
