Have You Ever Been Robbed?

I'm Asking: Have You Ever Been Robbed?

I get a little thrill from bank robbery flicks like Takers, but the reality of having your bank account, house, or car robbed is earth-shattering. Have you ever been robbed? And if so, what did you do?

I've never been robbed - I take public transportation every day but I'm a nut about watching where my stuff is at all times and always looking like I know what I'm doing (even if I don't). Plus I'm super-sensitive about movement & touch, I can feel any movements going on about my person. It's a blessing and a curse! While we were still dating my husband got robbed of his backpack once while traveling in Spain. Not a big luggage-sized one, but It contained his passport, ticket home, and all the important papers he needed for his trip. Thankfully the embassy was really helpful and he was able to get a new passport and get home alright, but now he is almost as watchful of his things as I am.

I had money stolen from me in high school and I had my car stolen a few years back. They found it later, but it was crashed and was beyond repair.

When I was in college there was a panty thief around town! Sounds funny, but then they hit our house. Luckily, we were not home, and we thought (hoped) that they were dumb college boys. Police caught them a month later, and they were two 30-something men who carried knives & handcuffs, and had a huge stash of women's clothing in their basements. So creepy...

My unit was broken into not all that long ago and some kids came in and stole cash from my purse (sitting on the kitchen bench at the time) and half a pack of cigarettes, i found my purse thrown into the garden near our rubbish bins at the front of my building. I knew/know who the culprit is, a local kid who lives around the corner from me - i asked a friend of mine (a cop) to speak to the boy - more to put the fear of god into him should he think of doing it again - and i spoke to his father about it. I told him I didn't care about getting the money (a whopping total of $40) or the ciggarettes back, and that all i expected from him was an apology.

I have had my car broken into. I'm so glad I was nowhere around! They only stole my sunglasses and my Veggie Tales CDs. My nieces and nephews miss the CDs, but if the robbers really needed to hear vegetables sing about Jesus, hopefully it has changed their ways!

Someone broke into my husband's truck once and stole a wrench set. My car's been broken into a few times, but they never stole anything from it. It was still really creepy to think about someone else being in my personal vehicle, though. When my husband's truck got broken into, we called the cops and filed a report, but they said there wasn't much they could really do.

What is it with credit card theft and shopping sprees at Victoria's Secret? My husband's card info was stolen and the thief used his info to buy stuff at Vicky's. The same person got his neighbor's card and used it to buy a bunch of tools and mechanical parts. The first thing that popped into my head was that old credit card theft commerical with the people talking in the voices of the people that took their cards.... and there's a dentist talking in this nerdy guy voice and she says "I took her card and used it to build my robot... my GIRL robot... this is gonna be the best prom ever!"

My apartment was broken into and my jewelry was taken. My car has been broken into a couple of times. Creepy to think of another person going through my stuff, being in my place. We also had credit card information taken a couple of times. Once they charged $5k of Victoria's Secret items. Since most of our purchases were to target and the grocery store, the credit cad company suspended use on the card. But they wouldn't prosecute. That was frustrating. Turned out that our information was taken by a carpet cleaner we had used. Had done it several times.
