The 8-Step Guide to Power Cleaning Your Bedroom in 1 Hour

Apr 1 2017 - 9:00am

There are two rooms in my apartment that I keep tidy (nearly) 24/7: the bathroom and the bedroom. The bathroom because it's purely the hygienic thing to do and the bedroom because it's where I sleep for nine hours [1] and where I keep my personal items. Not to mention, I sprawl out on the bed daily to catch up on books [2], binge-watch Netflix, and play on my phone . . . so, in summary, it's the place I spend the most time. You're probably not so unlike me, which is exactly why it's important to show your bedroom a bit of TLC here and there. Dedicate one hour [3] of deep cleaning to your main resting quarters — I can say with 100 percent surety you'll thank yourself when you're through!

Clothes

First, pick up all clothes you may have strewn about the room. Check the bed, floors, and your closet [4]. Throw the dirty items in your hamper; fold and put away clean clothes.

Time it should take: 10 minutes

Nightstand

Organize and wipe down your nightstand. Remember, you don't need to keep all your evening items (such as books, magazines, lotions, and headphones) there! Be selective to avoid too much jumble.

Time it should take: 3 minutes

Desk

Straighten up and clean off your work desk. The fewer items you have, the easier it is for you to be productive.

Time it should take: 5 minutes

Dresser

De-clutter and wash off your dresser. Scrub away any makeup stains or dust!

Time it should take: 7 minutes

Windows

Wash your bedroom's windows. Pay special attention to grime and fingerprints.

Time it should take: 8 minutes

Mirrors

Wipe down your room's mirrors. Buff away prints, marks, scuffs, and stains.

Time it should take: 4 minutes

Floor

Vacuum the floor. Use the hose for grubby corners and along the walls.

Time it should take: 15 minutes

Bed

Last but not least, make the bed. Spray a few squirts of Febreze on the fabric and around the room when you're finished.

Time it should take: 5 minutes

Total time: 57 minutes

Think of the remaining three minutes as any leeway minutes in case one or more of the tasks above takes a little longer. When you're all done, pat yourself on the back and treat yourself to a relaxing bedroom activity [5]. You've earned it!
