Love it! I'm totally committed to commuting by bicycle now, but otherwise would love a tiny car like this for inner city trips. the market for SMART cars is starting to open up, but sadly they will not be able to make or import them for the over 30,000 people that have preordered and electric ones will not be available until 2009-2010. I agree that the big-5 will not let this movement happen in the states. as gas prices rise and green issues get heated they'll have to do something. I'm all for the tiny cars! Take a look at this tiny car form Top Gear... so freaking cool! :-)

having been in mumbai last week i can say that this car would give the maruti suzukis a run for their money, but i would worry about safety. i saw the following cars on the road in mumbai (in order of popularity/common sightings): old fiat taxis, auto rickshaws, suzuki versas/swifts/etc., toyota qualis (just about the only "SUV" i saw) and then a smattering of honda citys, a rolls, and some crazy A-Team inspired stripped mini-vans. i am with fluffyhelen on this, the traffic that these cars cause would make the nano a deathtrap for drivers. however, it's nice to see a car with side mirrors, which is more than i can say for over 75% of the cabs i rode in!

I saw this on the news as well. The only thing that turns me off of this car is the lack of a soundsystem. My music keeps me sane on the road.

That was all over the news. Anyways, I think it's a good idea in terms of affordability but it really is not such a good idea for developing nations. How about they limit how many people get to buy those cars, a certain amount every month? And donate a tree(or multiple trees) to offset the production of every car? I hope that this comes to the US, also in limited quantities. The Big Five are no longer-- they have none of the might that they used to have. If only those politicians would stop counting on them for money and listen to the people who want cars with more fuel economy and cause less pollution! It just irks me that those people will probably be upset years from now when their grandchildren's grandchildren, etc. won't be able to go outside without a gas mask or something. Stop pandering to the Big Five. When you're an elected official, you should follow the orders of the public. Not your darn wallet.

Gah! I want one! Not only could I potentially afford it, but it's so tiny that I might actually be able to find parking for it on the streets of DC! I love me some little cars that fit between all the parallel parked SUVs and Hummers (because, obviously, you totally need a Hummer in the middle of the Washington, DC jungle).

Yeah, saw it on the news as well. It's a brilliant concept for low income families. Such a shame the States is too obsessed with gas-guzzlers to ever buy into it.

Saw it on CNN. And it will never be here sold at that price point the Big 5 won't allow it. And safety-wise (though it is safe) won't be sold here because of the sheer number of large cars that could crush it at will and mortal wound the occupants.

14 times cheaper then a cadillac! That is actually how much I paid for my first car. my 1990 Honda Accord. The car was 13 yrs old when I got it too.
