I'm Asking: How Would You Rate Your Work-Life Balance?

I'm Asking: How Would You Rate Your Work-Life Balance?

As much as I'd love for it to be true, saying that I have a good work-life balance would be a lie. It's something that I'm working on but it requires constant reminders and yogic affirmations that "I am a healthy, balanced person." If I had to rate my work-life balance on a scale from one to 10 (one being the least balanced and 10 being the most), I'd have to give a score around four. Maybe three and a half. What about you?

I'd say 7. My commute is far too long and I really want to quit my job, as I'm no longer challenged and just need a change. So work is definitely a drag for me at the moment.

I would say a 6 or 7. I dont have alot to do at work, so I just work 9-5 and go home on the dot and sometimes come in 10 minutes late LOL But it is stressfull to look for another job whilst doing my own job, which i have to as i'm bored stiff in my job at the moment.

Current job -- probably an 8 on the scale, which is the whole reason I took this job a few months ago. Old job was about a 4, and I was not happy. It really is all about your priorities. I realized that I was willing to make a little less money in order to: a) have a 15 minute walking commute instead of an hour on the freeway, b) work regulated hours, c) not to ever have to take work home with me, and d) work for a company who's values I really believe in. That's not for everyone, but I feel a lot freers! Now, I'm realizing I want to take classes or develop a fun hobby since I have a lot more time on my hands!

I would say 3-4, I hate my job and its causing me stress because of that. I wish more jobs would be available so i can go somewhere new. I hate going home moody and wish I had a few more friends around me that I could veg out with and unwind because I'm sure my fiance would appreciate to not hear my rants anymore.

I'd say about an 8 or 9. I work at a start-up where the philosophy is "get the job done, take whatever time you want". Everybody here is motivated and passionate about what they're working on and wants to see it succeed, so people work hard and "get the job done" and then live life. Work is less like a job and more something that I want to do... I mean some of it's drag... like putting together board slides but for the most part, it's enjoybale. My company also prides itself in that it balances the "life/work" dilemma well. People can work from location, take longer vacations or Friday when needed. It's really nice. As this is my first job out of college, I have a feeling it is going to be really hard to work in a corporate enviornment later in life. I chatted with colleague about this yesterday and honestly I don't know if it would be worth the money to me.

I'd go with a 7 or 8. I'm constantly striving to put my energy towards my "real life" rather than stressing about my "work life". I generally work ~8 hour work day, I refuse to take my laptop home, and I try not to take my work stress home.

Right now, probably a 6. I feel like I never have the time to do things I want, but on the other hand, I get things done that need to be done, and I can't really just not do those things!

I'd say I would rank at 7. I only have to work seven hours a day, but I have a rather lengthy commute-I use it to read and have gone through books so quickly as of late. Plus, when I'm home, I'm home. Work mode off, me mode on. I'm a writer and I find my mind wandering about articles in the shower sometimes, but I turn that off quickly because my work is not paying me while I'm in the shower! ;)

3 or 4. I only hang out with people from work since I moved here and 80% of the time we end up talking about work.

10. I think work is an enormous waste of my life, but I dont let it interfere anywhere in my personal life aside from the fact that I have to be here 830 - 5, M-F.

oh i'd have to give myself like a 3-4 because i don't have a very good balance at all. if i'm not AT work, then i'm home worrying about work, or checking my email or my BB and that's not a good thing. i think that sometimes i should give myself more free time and not devote my life to work since we sometimes set that expectation up for our coworkers.

About as balanced as it's gonna get. I have an job that doesn't suck up time and brain cells now. Thank god. Go to work and work. Come home and be normal. Feels good to be so young.

I'd say a 7? I work M-F 8-4:30. I never take work home and my job is relatively stress-free so I'm not worrying about work stuff on my off time. The only downfall is that I don't get a lot of vacation time. There aren't enough national holidays in the US! (They are the only days I'm guaranteed off!)

I'd say about 6. I'm a single mother and work 9-5. I make sure that work doesn't take over too much because I like to spend time with my son, make sure that I go over his homework and have dinner together almost every night. I NEVER ever bring work home!! I don't get paid extra for bringing it home or get paid overtime. It can wait till I come into the office the next morning.

I guess a four would be about right for me too. I don't have a lot of friends in this area, so I spend the majority of my time at work or at the gym. A few times a year, though, I get to go on vacations to see my friends, and that time is enough to keep me from going crazy. :)

4 and that doesn't make me too happy -- 3 day weekend would be ideal. Americans spend so so so much time working. I have family in Europe and they get so much vacation time it's ridiculous. I'm quite envious.
