Linens 'n Things to Go Bankrupt, Use Your Gift Cards

According to The New York Times, Linens 'n Things is expected to file for bankruptcy protection this week and it could turn into a Chapter 11 bankruptcy due to the amount of debt involved. Chapter 11 entails the reorganization of a company's affairs and assets and is the most complicated type of bankruptcy.

Some of you received Sharper Image gift cards for the holidays and were unable to use them when the company filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February. While this practice is surely infuriating they're technically not doing anything wrong, as federal law says a company doesn't have to honor gift cards after they've filed for this type of bankruptcy. Linens 'n Things would likely follow suit in terms of gift cards, so you may want to use them while you know they're still good.

I'd like to make some things clear. I am very familar with Linens N Things. You do not have to use your gift cards if you have them. Not all stores are going out of business. So you can always use them at another store. There will most likely not be any sales. They are going to ship them to the other stores. If you have a registry it will not be affected. You friends and family can purchase at another store that will remain open or purchase gifts offline. -Thanks.

Must be nice to only worry about a sale. Think of us employees who just got a memo to find new jobs.

We just recently got one in my area and I haven't been in there yet. I'll have to check it out before they end up closing it since I'm sure this particular store doesn't do very good business.

Hello sale!!

I wonder if they will have a sale. They are pretty competitive to BB&B so I am surprised that they are going to declare bankruptcy. Too bad because a lot of people will lose their job. Sigh...

I don't usually shop here, but I wonder if they'll be having a big sale if they're going out of business...

I just looked on the website, no mention. They have some things 50% off but not really worth it. I need a closeout sale.

Hmmm, does this mean that they will be having a sale soon? I need some things for my place. It seems like a lot of these big name retailers are going through it these days. I just read an article about Blockbuster's bid to buy Circuit City.
