Most Common Forms of Office Communication

How Do You Communicate in the Office?

When I think about it, I could theoretically go an entire day without having a real face-to-face interaction here at Sugar HQ. It's not that I'd choose to avoid my co-workers, but it's easy to get wrapped up in your own assignments, and if there aren't any meetings scheduled, you could get through an entire day carrying out conversations only on instant messenger. That's our preferred form of communication here, and we don't have desk phones. Still, when I crave a little face time, it's nice to walk over and chat person-to-person, but otherwise the convenience of IM is the reigning form of conversation. What about you? How do you communicate with co-workers in the office?

The project I'm currently working on requires face to face but previous project was all IMs and emails. And I agree with Anne26, lots of the IMs were therapy to get through the day.

Yep, company IM. Sametime!!! It's the best thing they ever invented. My friends have become my therapists every day through IM. haha. It's great. I would say 20 percent of 100 % of my IM's are actually about work. I would say that for everyone too. :-)

I work in a big office that has few people so we do most of our interactions face-to-face. We also forward emails to each other often.

We all sort of mill around the lab together as we work, so we just talk to each other face to face. If we need to talk to someone in another department, we call them on the phone. We don't really email that much.

IM, or screaming from office to office. We are all too lazy to leave our chairs.

My entire team are all in different places. We communicate thru IM most of the time.
