New York Shops Accepting Euros

New York Shops Now Accepting Euros

It's not news that the dollar has been on a slippery slope for awhile now, and some stores in New York are responding by putting up Euros Accepted signs in their windows. As one shop owner put it, "We had decided that money is money," and with the slew of European tourists flocking to New York to take advantage of the favorable exchange rates the move makes perfect business sense.

Business owners are not only looking out for their profits right now, they're thinking about other ways the influx of euros could benefit them in the future. One owner explained, "I'm happy if I take in 200 euros, because what I do is keep them. So when I go back to Paris, I don't have to go through the nightmare of going to an exchange place."

whoa ladies. Yes the value of a dollar is on the decline, but it is our currency whether its good or bad. Every currency has faced inflation, even the Euro will. But if Europeans are willing to come over to the US to spend their money, then they are only helping our economy by doing so.

I think it's a good idea for stores to accept money other than the dollar. It's true, money is money, and I'm sure the exchange rate helps them out a bit! Hey, if you're making a purchase, then money IS money!

lol! But yeah, the dollar's in bad shape these days. I guess with the influx of European visitors recently, it makes sense though.

I am supposed to call people by their usernames? Blah...I'd rather people just keep track themselves.

Those who think the dollar is "worthless" should go visit Mexico these days!

The dollar is worthless, I wouldn't want it either if I didn't live here.

It totally makes sense. A lot of shops in Hawaii take the Yen I am surprised it took NYC so long.

that's really interesting. see when i travel overseas - i just pay by credit card anyway - i hate carrying cash. i read a while back where there were cities that were taking pesos (close to mexico obviously) - and i thought that it was weird. i guess the US is really trying to deversify?
