Rising ATM Fees

Do You Avoid ATM Fees?

Many banks have been raising their fees as if their customers wouldn't notice, but they're not exactly taking baby steps. Some are increasing fees by the dollar. A good way to avoid fees is to get cash back when you use debit cards for purchases. Do you go out of your way to get out of paying extra fees?

I'm psycho about fees. Would be willing to spend $3 on a turkish coffee.. but I know where every single of my bank's ATM's are. I WILL walk out of my way to go there.

I like holding on to my money! I'll walk 8 blocks to save a few bucks. And yes, $2 is worth it.

I have to pay $3 a month for unlimited transactions on EFTPOS, internet banking, withdrawals from my bank's atms etc. If I use an ATM that isn't my banks, i get charged extra, so I always look for an ATM that is my bank's. I don't feel like paying extra for my money, unless it's unavoidable (ie, when i was overseas).

Bank of America charges you $3 if you use a fee that isn't a BOA machine. So on top of the $2-4 you will spend because that bank will charge you, BOA charges you again, which means $6 or more in fees for using an outside ATM. Just noticed this on our last statement. We're looking for ways to switch out. Ridiculous.

My bank reimburses all ATM fees, as well. So, I don't have to worry about it.

I use a credit union and have for many years. I started using them when I was able to get a car loan that was 4% less than the bank I was using at the time. I don't pay any fees on the ATMs in their network. They're not as plentiful as the bank ATMS, but I usually just get cash back at the grocery store when I need cash. With a relatively low balance, checking and savings combined, I have NO fees for the account either. Free billpay online too so I save on stamps! I don't understand why anyone puts their money in banks anymore. I bank with Provident Credit Union but check out any of the credit unions in your area.

I rarely go to ATMs...only to deposit pay checks after hours and then I'll take cash out because it's my bank. If I need money, I'll usually get some cash back at the grocery store or Target. If I really need it and have no other choice, I'll suck it up and pay the surcharge, but I try really hard not to. It's a frivolous fee! I love being back on the east coast where I hit up Wawa's surcharge AND great coffee! :WOOHOO:

Most PNC atms don't charge fees for ANY bankcard! Also, I just go to target or a grocery store, buy an apple or something, then just take out money there while I pay with debit.

I use Bank of America, which has branches everywhere, so it's usually pretty convenient to get to one and avoid ATM fees.

My bank makes it free to withdraw from their ATM's so I try my best to use theirs. But - like mentioned above - I'm not walking 8 blocks to one to save a few bucks.

If I ABSOLUTELY need to take cash out and there's not a Wachovia nearby, then yeah I will. I try to plan ahead though. I wished they would reimburse ATM fees!! That would be awesome.

I can't remember the last time I used an ATM.

Totally OT, but my bank just changed to some RIDICULOUS policies, and I'm going to switch. Who do you guys use and what are the perks? I heard Bank of America is letting you deposit at the ATM for same day credit.. My problem with our bank is they don't even let cash after 3 be avaliable immediately... I saw one advertisement for some bank that lets you deposit checks from home online

I rarely carry cash on me, and use my debit card and online banking whenever possible. I rarely use the cash back option at registers, but will when I know I'll need cash and that there isn't a credit union ATM nearby. As for ATM use, I use ATMs in the credit union network (that don't incur fees), which are practically everywhere nowadays.

My bank is a local credit if I'm near the bank I'll go there for cash. Otherwise I just go to the store and get cash back. I don't go to places that charge a fee. Its not really hard for me to get cash when I need it. Which can be a problem sometimes!

my bank doesn't charge atm fees ONLY if you have $3000 or more in your checking. So basically again, the people who can afford it don't get the fees, and the people who can't afford them have to get them. I told them it was bull.

I don't use the ATM that often either. And when I know I'm running low on cash, I go to the local ATM just in case rather than have to pay a fee to use another company's ATM. I would do it in an absolute emergency, but I try to plan how I'm spending my money.

I don't use ATMs that often and so I definitely avoid them when I do.

I'm lucky, my bank reimburses me for any ATM charges, so I go to whichever one is the most convenient.
