We've embarked on a 40-day Savvy Savings Challenge in the SavvySugar Community with the hopes of helping one another make smarter choices and build our piggy banks. I've promised to forgo all unnecessary spending — most notably I won't be driving to work for convenience or clothes shopping — for all of Lent. I've invited you all to join in the savings group and make your own sacrifices and now want to know how your mission is going. How am I doing, and how can you get in on the savings? Find out when you
I will not tell a lie: It took serious willpower to resist clothes shopping this weekend. I declined my friend's invitation for some social shopping and steered our outing to Target because we both needed to pick up household items and toiletries. Right as we were leaving, I spotted boy t-shirts on the clearance rack and was sooo tempted (they were only $5.99!), then realized that would put a dent in my effort so I put them back. We popped into two other stores, but I kept my eyes on the prize. I spent Sunday relaxing with my honey, food shopping and organizing so there was no chance to spill my hard-earned bucks on unnecessary items. I've realized many of my social friend dates surround window shopping, which inevitably leads to some spending, so I'm going to work on planning cheap outings that don't kill the budget for the next few weeks.
Have you joined my mission yet, and if so, how is it going? Cheer on the savers and jump in the game by cutting your most harmful and indulgent habit for the next 40 days! Join the Savvy Savings Challenge and share what you plan, then update the group daily or weekly with your pitfalls and success stories. The community and I will be your personal finance trainers!
