Some People are Hiring Proposal Planners

News Flash: Proposal Planners Cashing in on Wedding Economy

Most people love hearing proposal stories even when they're about a couple they don't even know. Proposals kick off what's usually a really busy year for most brides and grooms, and they're an important part of a couple's whole wedding story. I personally haven't heard of anyone hiring a professional to plan their marriage proposal, but some people are doing it and forking over major bucks. One planner says that she charges an average of $5,000 to $15,000 per proposal, and some come equipped with a special photographer for the occasion.

Savvy, hope your wedding dress shopping trip went well! One of the many reasons why I hope I'll be able to convince the fiance to elope is that I can't stomach the idea of spending so much money on a one day celebration... I'd rather have an expensive honeymoon!

I think I would be so turned off if I found out that my fiance' paid someone to think up his proposal for him. Part of what makes the moment touching is knowing that he agonized over what would be the perfect way to ask you.

I'm so happy that my fiance proposed in a low key way (at our apt. after a yummy sushi dinner and some wine). And I kind of feel like we're going to get married at the J.O.P and then have a huge party some time this summer. I'm not all about spending tons of money on one day.

wow. people with a large disposable income will spend their money on some really ridiculous things. a proposal planner? that lady is really smart for coming out with something so crazy that some guys would pay that much for.

Wow, this is ridiculous. I don't know why proposals have to be a big production too. Sure, the wedding is a public spectacle, but I would want my proposal to be lowkey and intimate, between me and him.

Good luck Savvy! I am sure you will find something wonderful. There are some lovely dresses out there that don't break the bank.

I agree with you ladies and think it's pretty outrageous how expensive weddings can be. That being said, wish me luck wedding dress shopping this weekend — I'm going to bring along an alka seltzer for my upset stomach once I see the price tags!

Yeah this is terrible. It seems fake if someone else plans it, and that makes the proposal seem fake as well. The wedding industry is out of hand! I think theres some conspiracy bride had a huge over the top wedding and now we all feel like thats the standard. I am having a riduculously hard time trying to convince my mother in law and parents not to waste a large amount of money on one day! I think everyone wants to keep up with the jones' and here is yet another example. People are starving in dafur yet my future mother in law wants to spend money on jordan almonds nobody will eat!

That is the most retarded thing I have ever heard. I agree with aimeeb, it is sad if your guy cant be original or for the least romantic enough to think of something. This is so very sad.

I think part of what should make a proposal special is that it is unique to the two people involved. My husband knows me better than anyone, so I don't think that a person paid to make it a big spectacle would have made the proposal more special. The fact that he did it when he was inspired to do it, with words that he chose and in a place that meant a lot to both of us....that is what made it special.

Thanks gigill! And skinnymarie...I am a wedding planner/coordinator for my church. Let me know if you need any cost saving tips or general ideas. I am happy to help and best of all I don't charge a thing. ;)

F that!! I think all the $$$$ involved in weddings, engagements, and all that shit is totally ridiculous. I'm getting married at the freaking city hall for $35.

when my fiance went to buy the ring at Robbins Bros, they gave him a whoooole package of information, which included a service for planning out an engagement (which we he didn't use). I suppose it's a good idea for guys who really want to super-suprise their girls, but I agree....all the lace and ribbons and hoopla of just the ENGAGEMENT is very unoriginal. I think it's a waste of money. and YES! I agree with SkinnyMarie....the word WEDDING makes the price of ANYTHING go up by the thousands. It's so fucking disgusting.

The wedding industry is just disgusting these days. Its such a waste to see how much people spend on 5 hours of their lives. I am currently planning my wedding and I am in shock how much more people charge you because you say the word wedding. You shouldn't even be spending that much on the engagement ring!

Absolutely ridiculous. That's the stupidest and most impersonal thing I have ever heard about.

Good for her for finding a niche and creating a profitable business. Personally, I think the fact that there is a need for this is a sad commentary on our society. We are focusing so much on the proposal and the wedding, and neglecting the marriage. You want the marriage to last a lifetime; the other events are just one day. I spent less than $8k on my wedding so I can't imagine spending $15k on the proposal! I have to say...I am so glad my proposal wasn't planned. My hubby had the ring, but he wanted to wait for the right moment. It wasn't flashy or expensive. It was personal, sweet, and private. That's the way I preferred it.

In my opinion I think that's kind of sad if your guy can't come up with something on his own.
