Using Frequent Flyer Miles

Savvy Travel Tips: Handfuls of Miles and Nowhere to Put Them?

This tip was shared by member morganashley in our Savvy Travel Tips group.

Since I like to get a good deal when I fly, I typically pick the cheapest flight even if it’s not my preferred airline, points/miles-wise. Same thing goes for hotels — when I’ve traveled for work, we’ve been directed to particular chains which means I’ve gathered up quite a few points there, too. Problem is, save a few exceptions, I’ve netted a thousand miles here, a few thousand there, several thousand elsewhere and so on — nowhere near the 35,000 and up needed to get a flight.

No more! I’ve discovered this great site called WebFlyer Mileage Converter. It asks for your mileage/point amounts for a number of frequent travel programs. You can pick where you want them to go and see what gets you the best results — it even gives you multiple conversion choices, if available.

While you don’t get as much bang for your buck as you would if you waited ‘til you had the 50,000 plus to use them automatically, if you know you’re probably not going to get there in this lifetime, this site’s a lifesaver. The cool thing is you can transfer points/miles/status between hotels, airlines, car rentals, credit cards and more — so find out your numbers and start converting!

If you have money-saving, travel tricks of your own, don't be shy. It's time to share them in the Savvy Travel Tips group for a chance to be featured on SavvySugar.
