Wal-Mart Accused of Misleading Advertisements

News Flash: Wal-Mart Won't Save You $2,500 a Year

Wal-Mart's secret has been let out of their plastic bags — apparently, shopping at their super stores will not actually save you $2,500 a year. The National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus has announced that the company's ads, implying that their hot deals could leave you with an extra $2,500 in your pocket, were in fact misleading. Wal-Mart admitted they had no support for the message but said they'd consider the findings in its future advertisements, “ensuring that the positive impact we have for all American families is even more explicit.”

TidalWave made an interesting point. Also I've noticed some of the products we've purchased from Walmart have different packaging and don't work as well as from a normal store, even on name brand items (Claritin and Lindt chocolate are the two that come to mind). I'm thinking since Walmart buys in such large quantity maybe the manufacturer can make different items for them that are cheaper to make. Totally a theory and not substantiated at all except by Claritin not working and Lindt actually tasting BAD, along with a few other items I can't remember, but just a thought. It's turned me against Walmart more than anything else, because I love their return policy whereas Targets sucks!

I've never liked Walmart. It seems disorganized and unlike Target I want to leave right away. I am a Target girl and every woman I know likes Target better than Walmart.

They are also greedy bastards. I am sure you all know about this... http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/03/25/walmart.insurance.battle/index.html Luckily, they dropped their lawsuit, but only because of the intense media scruntiny. They were fully prepared to take all that money back from this woman.

Ew, Walmart. I agree with JennaV. I worked for Target in high school, they do treat the employees well. They have a good HR system. Walmart's dingy and too big and you have to park a mile away cause the whole ghetto's there every night.

It's nice to hear that other people are sick of Wal-Mart, too! We haven't shopped there for quite awhile, and we don't ever plan to again...we don't want to give them any of our money, even though our small amount of purchases probably makes no difference to a big corporation like them.

I'm under boycott of Walmart also.

Wal Mart sucks :true: I have boycotted Wal Mart for the past 3 & 1/2 years. Not surprised they have a misleading ad campaign. I don't mind paying a little extra for Target AND supporting a company that has higher quality products and treats the employees better.

Agreed with CaterpillarGirl! The few times I've been to a Wal-Mart, I've hated the crowds as well. Ugh. Never again.

My sister used to work for Walmart. They are are terrible company to work for. They are a huge company and should treat the employees well but they treat them like sh*t! The pay is horrible and the benefits are terrible and not worth it.

Even saying that Walmart saves EVERYONE $2,500 a year is wrong because a majority of their employees are on government substenance, which greatly costs all of us.
