Walgreens Offers Free Health Care For Those Without Jobs

Walgreens Offers Free Health Services For Those Without Jobs

Ford, Hyundai, and GM have your car payments covered if you lose your job, and now you can look to Walgreens for free health care if you're handed a pink slip. The national drugstore chain has rolled out its Take Care Program, offering free health care by nurse practitioners and physician assistants for ailments like respiratory problems, allergies, infections, and skin conditions.

You're eligible to receive the free services if you're without health insurance and lost your job on or after March 31, 2009. With 341 Take Care Clinics around the country, the offer should generate widespread appeal, though clinic hours will only be offered weekdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Yeah, it does kind of suck for those laid of before March 31st. I wonder why they are stipulating after March 31st.

We offer something similar to that at the hospital where I work. It's a free clinic, but I think you either have to be unemployed or have a job with no benefits in order to qualify for it. It's especially good for families with kids...I can't imagine having kids and not having access to basic medical care.

Good to know! I'm getting laid off soon and wondered how I was going to handle the medical thing. I've never been unemployed before.

That's nice. I can't imagine what it would be like without access to basic healthcare.
