Are You More Productive When You Have a Lot Going On?

Some people are scared off by a big to-do list; they get flustered and don't know where to begin. Other people act more efficiently when they have things thrown at them from several directions, while a tiny list of to-dos requires them to muster up even more motivation. Are you more productive when your schedule is full?

With longer lists, I'm put into survival mode. Motivation at its best!

Yes absolutely. The bigger the list of things to do the more I become motivated, organized, and productive ....

And when I worked outside the home I too would cut up the long lists into shorter lists for better time management and task manageability.

Absolutely more productive with smaller, more manageable lists. I get overwhelmed with long lists/super busy days and end up not getting nearly as much done on those days because I'm so overwhelmed that I often end up shutting down.

I get more accomplished when I don't have the time to get anything done. On my days off I have such a hard time getting out of bed, that I never get seem to make a dent in the stuff I should be doing, but on work days I can put in a full day of work, go grocery shopping, clean the house, read a book, and still manage to watch a DVR full of that days episodes. On my weekends I'm lucky if I can manage to make myself a cup of coffee and take it back to bed with me before needing to take a nap. Do get me wrong once I'm up and out of the house or on a mission I'm a force to be reckoned with, and can go for weeks with only a few hours a night of sleep, but once I'm in slug mode it almost takes an act of God to get me to move. I think my brain actually does this to me to rejuvenate itself from what I put it through when I am on. Don't get me started on vacations either. I'm the person that is up watching the sunrise at 5 am after having only gone to sleep 3 hours prior and will still be able to take in a full day of exploring the area and catching every tourist and non-tourist site in town.

I have to keep moving on my days off! I feel good about myself when I have accomplished a lot in one day and if I spend a day sleeping in or just vegging I feel like crap!

A shorter, attainable list motivates me. That's why I break-up a long to-do list into smaller lists. :)

Me too...when you have more to do, you end up actually doing more. It seems like when I have a day off of work, I am so lazy and I have to drag myself to do the stuff I have to get done. But when I have a ton of stuff to do at work, I leave feeling like I should get a ton of stuff done at home too.

Definitely. A longer list will motivate me. I would probably procrastinate about just a few things.
