The Skinny Confidential Founder Lauryn Bosstick Shares Her Must-Have Products

May 22 2023 - 9:30am

Lauryn Bosstick [1] is one of the internet's OG bloggers. You might know her from The Skinny Confidential [2], a blog and now product line, or the wildly popular "Him & Her Podcast [3]," which she hosts with her husband, Michael. Bosstick created her blog because she wanted the camaraderie of a sorority without having to pay an arm and a leg. "I wanted a place where I could connect people online for free. And I was like, I'm gonna create a blog that's not about me. It's about resources. I'll pepper my stuff in, but I want to find out other people's tips and tricks. I wanted to give the juice, to get skinny," Bosstick tells POPSUGAR. The cheeky name has nothing to do with body image, Bosstick says; rather, it's a resource for unfiltered and honest tips and tricks about all things beauty, wellness, and lifestyle that has since grown into a full-fledged community and media empire.

Seeking a more direct line of communication with her audience, Bosstick and her husband created their podcast. "It's kind of like you're going to happy hour with us," she says. "We bring all different kinds of guests on and share. We share our opinion, but at the end of the day, the audience has to come to their own conclusions." Their recent guests include Scarlett Johansson, Ellie Goulding, and Chelsea Clinton. After years of interviewing experts from different walks of life, she's picked up a few important lessons and habits. "The common ground with people who are successful is the ones that are massively successful go through the chimney. If they're told no at the front door, no at the back door, no, the window, no, the balcony, they're going through the chimney," Bosstick says. "They're figuring out a way, and it's just the undying resourceful energy that they have, and that's always really inspired me."

The podcaster and blogger has also written a few books, and her latest one, "Get the F*ck Out of the Sun," [4] is filled with skin-care advice and beauty tricks from experts like dermatologists [5] and estheticians, as well as celebrities, founders, and influencers. "The future of skin care is prevention, but I think that's the future of self-care, and I think it's the future of medicine, too," she shares. Bosstick is also noticing people going back to the basics like "getting off your phone, taking a walk in the morning [6], hydrating, getting electrolytes, meditation [7], eating more meat." She highly recommends bookending your day without your phone. "To have those three hours in the morning and three hours at night has been life-changing. I get more done. I'm not scrolling," she says.

While Bosstick gives her followers the scoop on her daily routines on her Instagram Stories and shares her tips and tricks on TikTok, she also shares some of her must-have products with POPSUGAR below. From timeless white shoes and the most supportive bralette from Skims to a stylish humidifier [8] that's mold-resistant, these are Bosstick's current favorite picks.

Lauryn Bosstick's Affordable Must Have

Bosstick loves sporting Skims. According to her, the line is "completely designed to flatter the body, and at the end of the day, that's what we really all want — is to be flattered." Her go-to is the Fits Everybody Crossover Bralette [10] ($34) in nude or black. Designed for everyday wear and comfort, this bralette doesn't have underwire yet is still supportive and flattering. The bralette has a power-mesh lining that delivers coverage and support — she even wore it while breastfeeding. Plus, its V-neckline stood out to her the most "because it pushes your boobs together and gives them a lift, but it's not a 2001 push-up," she says.

Pro Tip: If you're wearing something strapless or an outfit that looks better without a bra, Bosstick recommends getting Nippies Nipple Covers [11] ($27).

Lauryn Bosstick's Investment Must Have

"I've always loved white shoes. There's something about a white shoe that feels fresh yet nostalgic; it's like a boat shoe," says Bosstick, and Tod's Kate Chain Calfskin Flat Loafers [12] ($825) are worth every penny. In fact, she's been investing in them since she was 22 years old, back in her bartending days. "It's very classic. It's elevated, almost like a rich mom in Nantucket. I feel sophisticated, and also they're simple, so they go with everything," she says. Bosstick styles them with baggy black pants, jeans, bermuda shorts, and cute summery dresses.

She loves how flattering they look on your feet, too. "You know how sometimes you wear a shoe and it looks like a clown foot? These loafers make the foot just look the best it can look; it's just classically designed." Plus, Bosstick assures us that these loafers are pretty durable, having had a previous pair for six years. "They don't dirty, and they're very easy to clean," she says.

Pro Tip: Although Bosstick raves about how durable they are, you can get the editor-backed Jason Markk Repel Spray [13] to maintain them and keep them in pristine condition.

Lauryn Bosstick's Morning Routine Must Have

Bosstick leaned into the Barbiecore aesthetic [14] with her Skinny Confidential line and created "something that I could have out on my vanity that wasn't something I wanted to hide," she says. Bosstick uses her Hot Mess Ice Roller [15] ($69) first thing in the morning to take care of the puffiness and inflammation before going into her skin-care routine. "If I don't sleep a little bit upright, I just turn into such a puff underneath my eyes, so it's so cooling on the eyes. My favorite way [to use the ice roller] is over a sheet mask," she says. She even brings it while traveling and stores it in the hotel's minibar fridge or an ice bucket.

The Hot Mess Ice Roller was meticulously designed by Bosstick to deliver the best experience: it cools and helps diminish inflammation. "There was nothing on the market that was holding cold like I wanted it to, and I was just always puffy," she says. This unique ice roller is weighted and features "a little thumbprint where you can contour your face even better," she points out. The roller itself is made from aluminum, so it stays much colder than the plastic ones. Our editors put it to the test as well; read our in-depth review of the Hot Mess Ice Roller here [16].

Pro Tip: "I do recommend rolling it like eight to 10 times on your arm before you put it on your face, because it does get so cold," she says.

Bosstick says it's also a great way to help calm down razor burn in extra-sensitive spots like your bikini and underarm areas. You can even use it as an ice pack, too.

Lauryn Bosstick's Sleep Must Have

Bosstick can't go to bed without running her Canopy Humidifier [17] ($150). "The difference is incredible. I'm obsessed with the humidifier. I mean, it just makes your skin so much more bouncy," she says. She's also put the humidifier in both of her kids' rooms. Bosstick loves that the humidifier is mold-inhibiting and not an eyesore. It has a UV light that sanitizes the water and a paper filter to capture debris and dirt. The humidifier is equipped with a 2.5-liter tank and has a runtime of 36 hours. It's also easy to maintain and clean with dishwasher-safe parts.

Her sleep ritual is extensive but packed with everything she needs to go to bed. While the humidifier is on, Bosstick wears an LED mask [18] for a bit and swears by listening to the 528-hertz frequency, which she says "helps relax the body and with anxiety and stress." She drinks a magnesium water, reads on her Kindle, and keeps phones and TVs out of the bedroom.

Pro Tip: With Canopy's humidifier, you can use a few drops of essential oils to enhance your environment even more. Bosstick loves the scents Mommy Needs a Minute, Hot Girl Morning, and Get the F*ck to Bed [19] ($40).

Lauryn Bosstick's Must-Have Pair of Sneakers

Bosstick loves a white shoe, and these Céline Triomphe Low Lace Up Sneakers [20] ($550) are a comfortable pair that don't get dirty easily. "It's effortless and classic, so can never go wrong with a white sneaker," she says. These Céline sneakers are made with 100 percent calfskin with perforated detailing along the sides for a minimal look. Bosstick loves the versatility of white sneakers: "I wear them with sweats or dressed up, like a baggy blazer situation. I wear them with jeans, too." Bosstick also sports these sneakers every time she travels.

Pro Tip: Bosstick loves to splurge on herself, but she points out, "You can go on Amazon and find a great pair of white sneakers. It doesn't have to be an expensive pair of white sneakers. I'm all about going to Target and finding something budget-friendly."

These sneakers run big, so it's recommended that you go down a size.
