This Underwater Art Museum Is Creepy, Cool, and Completely Beautiful

Let's be real, museum trips aren't always the most exciting — unless they require scuba diving to see the art. Museo Subacuático de Arte (MUSA) is an underwater contemporary museum around Cancún, Isla Mujeres, and Punta Nizuc, Mexico, with over 500 life-size sculptures. The project was founded in 2009 as a way to colonize marine life while connecting art and environmental science. Each sculpture, which also serves as an artificial reef for the fish, is made of special materials intended to promote coral life. The 420-square-meter site also lures visitors away from natural reefs that need to recover.

The museum is divided into two galleries: Salon Manchones and Salon Nizuc. The sculptures of Salon Manchones are located eight meters deep, requiring scuba diving. There are several ways to explore Salon Nizuc (four meters deep), including snorkeling and a glass boat tour. Whichever method you choose will promise a unique experience either way.
