Here’s Your Cheat Sheet to Mastering “Me Time,” Straight From 1 Self-Care Expert
Between balancing an important career and valuable relationships, it can be difficult to find the time and energy to focus on yourself. But as we've seen again and again, taking a little "me time," even if it's just for a few minutes each day, can help with everything from easing stress and anxiety to better parenting. In short, it's an investment in yourself and your future and something that's worth prioritizing. It was with this idea of self-investment in mind that led Mariela Rovito to found luxury loungewear brand Eberjey alongside her cofounder Ali Mejia. "Self-care is ultimately about loving yourself, and our dream was to make something that real women would want [to wear] to feel good in their own skin," Mariela shares. "It's like a special treat for yourself that reminds you that you're worth it."
With a company that's all about creating beautiful pieces that encourage women to put themselves first, Mariela knows a thing or two about self-care. Here, she shares the easy steps she relies on to achieve valuable time alone.
1. Slip into something comfortable
The first thing Mariela does to unwind after a long day is to change out of her work clothes into a soft Eberjey lounge robe, featured in the sold out Summer Must Have box. "This to me is the modern version of 'slipping into something more comfortable,'" she says. "In today's busy world, I think that phrase has taken on a whole new meaning, and I love that Eberjey can be a resource for getting comfy or cozy while still feeling pretty. The robe is so lightweight and feminine that it feels like you're wrapped inside a beautiful present."
2. Put your phone away
Next, Mariela sets all distractions, including her phone, aside. "I'm committed to putting the phone away," she says. "Being present is not only something I cherish but something I feel is important for my toddler to observe and emulate. It's so easy to get distracted these days by so many digital inputs that this feels rewarding and refreshing."
3. Pamper yourself
Finally, as Mariela shares, you can't help but pamper yourself while wearing such a luxurious robe. This could mean a relaxing bath, an indulgent mani/pedi, or Mariela's preferred method of winding down: an at-home massage, which you can order through apps like Zeel or Soothe. "I cherish a good home massage every now and then when everyone's sleeping. Being able to roll off the massage table right into bed is priceless." It could also mean hunkering down and enjoying a good magazine or book. "I tune out the world and read everything I can squeeze into that break."
