Just announced by the TSA: your 11-inch MacBook Air can stay in its bag when going through airport security. The 13-inch model, however, can not; you must take it out as you would a regular laptop. The 11-inch Air gained special airport clearance because it's smaller than the average laptop.
For more on the new rule, keep reading.
Even though the 11- and 13-inch models are exactly the same apart from size, the 13-inch is still considered a regular laptop in the eyes of airport security while the 11-inch is treated like an iPad. So, in an age when phones are getting larger, computers are getting smaller, and a whole crop of new devices like the iPad are completely changing the way we interact with media, they seem to be changing the way we board planes, too. I'm curious to see if any airports will post a list of gadgets that are OK to stay inside your bag during TSA screenings or if only in-the-know MacBook Air-toting travelers will reap this time-saving benefit.
