AOL Screen Names

Geek Out: Share Your Original Screen Names!

My parents signed us up for AOL's first dial-up service when I was twelve. Since then, I've managed to hold onto my first screen name (a reference to my then-favorite band which is too embarrassing to share here), even though I don't use it. In college, my friends and I laughed over our screen names, chosen as adolescents but too close to our hearts to give up. I eventually switched to a work-friendly AIM account name, but a few times a year I'll sign online with my screen name of yore.

Plenty of my friends have original names, most featuring band or celeb names, often with a lot of Xxs or other characters for design effect, and always good for a giggle. Have you held onto yours? Brave enough to share it?

And, if you're in the market for a new screen name, be sure to check out this handy screen name generator.

GwenNoDbt. It was 1995 and Tragic Kingdom was just released. It is still in my top 5 favorite albums. Back then, logging on to AOL took 30 minutes in peak times so I always played music and did my homework while waiting to get online. What teenage girl doesn't dream of being a rockstar?

Love hearing these! When I was in middle school my first was "dream" and some random numbers or letters. It was after the GAP perfume of the same name. Shortly after I switched it to happymjc. The happy came from Cliniques Happy perfume. I still use that for most of my random online accounts. I guess I was a perfume lover?! My bff's was her name and then "4j" which = for justin (of nsync of course!) and my other friend was a pastry (she worked at a bakery). We all still refer to one another by these!

In college I was the editor of an indie 'zine called naked on roller skates and had the email to to match. It had nothing to do with being naked but the email used to get me seriously strange emails from people who weren't familiar with it.

Jenndise1 -- it was Jenndise back in the Prodigy days and for some reason AOL wouldn't let me use it when we switched. I doubt there was another Jenndise at AOL!
Marshmelly411 Marshmelly411 6 years first sn was "dreamstar258411". It was so ridiculously long with an unnecessary amount of numbers.

my dad created my first screen name, ElissaNJ, when I was 10. Switched it when the creepy people started getting on the internet and I didn't want them to know where I lived...
