Apple's New In-Ear Headphones: Yay or Nay?

Apple's New In-Ear Headphones: Yay or Nay?

I guess Steve Jobs finally got the memo that the standard white iPod/iPhone earphones, well . . . suck. I know they are free and everything, but why oh why do they have to fit so awkwardly and hurt like hell? Well aside from announcing some hot new iPods at the Let's Rock event on Tuesday, Steve had some other tricks up his sleeves including these new Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic. Each pair cost a mere $79, come with three sizes of silicon tips, and have dual drivers for stellar sound quality. Word has it that the remote and mic only work on the iPod nano (4th generation), iPod classic (120GB), and iPod touch (2nd generation) - go figure - but other than that they can be universally used as headphones. Apple will be shipping these white bad boys soon.

NAY! I never buy anything from Apple. I didn't even buy my Ipod. I got it as a gift. So ha! And Apple earphones are always ridiculously expensive. I got an even better pair with bass enhancements and all sorts of cool gadgets for $10. The Apple ones were going for $20 - $30. Huzzah!

I can't judge them until I try them and see if they'll stay put in my ears! The old ones really were pretty lame.

I finally broke down and bought a pair of earbuds (for the airplane only), and although they are Sennheiser, they still can't beat my Sennheiser HD595s. I've been spoiled by open air headphones. Verily, all earbuds have bad poor quality. That said, of the inferior sound quality of earbuds, some reduce intermodulation and harmonic distortion more than others. I recommend Sennheiser. But if you're interested in accuracy, then I suggest staying clear of earbuds alltogether. I'm saving for a pair of HD650s. That's going to take a while....

Jeez. 80 bucks? I have a nice pair from Sony that weren't that much.

With that money I could get some nice Sony ones. I hated the earphones that came with the iPod, they always fell out, and my ears ached after having them in.

I agree Miss Marisol! I have those as well (using them now, as a matter of fact). Love them... for the $40 I spent on them. Don't know if I'd be $80.

I think these should be standard. The other ones are a joke. However, I dont care how amazing these are... not worth my $79. #2.. the new Nano has voice recorder on it. That's what the mic is for. :)

I had the same pair MissMarisol has, but they broke after 6 months of use so I didn't buy another pair. I've got some Sony in-ears now that I really like. IMHO, the Sennheiser CX300 lynnypoo mentioned is probably the best deal @ $30.

I like the fact they are trying to make more comfortable ear phones, just me thinking out loud they have such colorfull ipods what about a colorfull ear phone too.?

I wouldn't spend that much until I see the audiophiles weigh in on their sound quality.

Awesome. I totally want them. My Bose headphones broke and so I want some in ear ones. I will try them out.

Yay. However I have no need for those since I received Bose in-ear headphones for christmas last year. Those cost like $150 and work so well. However if I didn't have that I would have bought the new Apple ones since the old earphones are crap.

they are a little late on this discovery because I already own a snuggly pair of this type of headphone in white from Sony that cost me $30.00

I too have small ears Bloody...and the hearphones always pop out every few minutes. So my ipods have been pretty much useless. So yeah, I'm happy they have these kind of ear phones for people with small ears (no matter the price)!

not bitting. the style of the buds just doesn't work for most people and i'm always amazed at the gym by those who can run and they don't fall out. the replacement phones i bought are awesome. plus they match!

I have these and they work pretty well for me. http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9394G/C?fnode=MTY1NDA0Ng&mco=MjI4NjEz

I don't know, i feel that it should be included with the ipod instead of those lousy default ones. I found that the Sennheiser CX300 is pretty good as an alternative to the above in-ear headphones, and it was way cheaper as well. They're also available in white :)

FINALLY. I hope they'll release a nano lanyard that uses these!

Wow I thought it was just me who felt that way about apple headphones. I'm glad I'm not alone on this one.

I have big ears so I've always loved the original earbuds - they're the only ones of that style to ever stay in my ear. I admit I love the sound cancelling quality of in-ear phones though, so I'm hoping these are what ships with the new generation of pods.
