Apple's iTunes Popular Songs See a Fall in Popularity After Raise to $1.29

What's Your Online Resource For Paid, Digital Music?

That fallout was quick: Billboard reports that due to last week's raise in iTunes prices for popular songs to $1.29, many of those popular songs have dropped in download ranking (that's one way to get them back down to 99 cents!).

Personally, the only time I download single songs from iTunes is for popular songs (you know, the ones you can't get out of your head and need to have now), but I'm annoyed by the price jump, so I may go somewhere else. Considering the majority of you said you bought music online the last time I asked, tell me, where do you go for your paid music downloads?

@z0rkzer0 Originally they were saying that it was their policy to remove "overtly adult novels" from sales rankings. Check this out: Sorry for off topic, buuut....yeah, Amazon is trying to cover their arse with that "glitch" BS. They screwed up and they know it. They are SCRAMBLING to try to keep from getting their butts handed to them by the GLBT & allied consumer base. Considering GLBT folks have a whole lot of buying power, and then throw in their supporters buying power....Amazon's butt is on fire and they're trying to figure out how to put it out.

@cal1 - FYI, Amazon is saying that the cataloging glitch is an accident, and it will be fixed: (sorry for the somewhat off-topic post)

None. I will not pay for low-quality digitally compressed music. I still buy physical music media (vinyl or disc) and convert it to portable format for myself. I'll d/l a (free) digital copy of something to sample it, but I won't pay more money for less product -- makes no sense to me.

I prefer to use unlimited subscription services. I was using Yahoo Unlimited until they discontinued the service. Now I'm using Napster, and I'm pretty happy. One flat rate for almost all the music you can download. And their selection is pretty good. I like a lot of underground & indie musicians, and I can still almost always get what I'm looking for.

I still prefer to buy CDs and import them, but in the rare cases when I buy digital music, I go with iTunes. But as a Norwegian, I don't really have a lot of alternatives. A lot of the sites won't sell to people outside of the US, which sucks. Even iTunes is way worse for us, as we can't buy TV shows (a rights issue, I presume) and the music catalogue is smaller.

I check between Amazon and iTunes and whoever has it cheaper is where I'll buy it from. :) But if it's the same price I usually buy from iTunes, for no real reason.
