Book You Can Wear

Read the Book, Wear the Book, and Feel the Characters' Emotions

File this one under things that are . . . quite interesting. A group of scientists over at MIT invented a prototype book — this one's appropriately called The Girl Who Was Plugged In — that is supposed to mimic the emotions of the main character in the story.

Here's how it works: the book comes covered in glowing LED lights that brighten or dim as the plot changes. As if that weren't enough, the book hooks up to a vest that you're supposed to strap on and wear while you're reading. That vest also mimics the characters' feelings like love or deep sadness.

So, you'll feel vibrations when a character's heart rate would, or should, go up, and you'll feel heat at your collarbone in a dramatic situation. Oh, and get this: the vest comes with airbags that tighten and loosen depending on the scenario.

For all intents and purposes, this could be a cool way to merge reality with fiction, but the execution is definitely questionable. Imagine reading The Fault in Our Stars or some other intense book hooked up to that thing. Nevermind, we don't even want to go there.

Let us know what you think: is it weird or wonderful?
