The Corporations Behind Facebook's Beacon

The Corporations Behind Facebook's Beacon

Now that we know all about Beacon, Facebook's online marketing initiative, we can feel better knowing that Facebook is striving to respect their users' privacy.

Yeah right! The only difference now is that you can opt-in or out of having your purchasing info listed on your profile, although your buying habits are still being tracked by third-party sites. Wondering what these sites are?

Thanks to The Consumerist, who has posted the full list of companies participating in Beacon, we can learn who the culprits are that are fueling the fire so to speak.

For the entire list of companies,
Busted Tees
CBS Interactive ( & Dotspotter)
Live Nation
National Basketball Association
Sony Online Entertainment LLC
Sony Pictures
STA Travel
The Knot

Old facebook is now slowly dying way. Also, thank GOD Amazon and eBay aren't on that list.

Also, If you are a designer, photographer or illustrator, be careful if you post any of your work to Facebook because Facebook owns the rights to use anything that you post on your profile without your permission and they don't have to compensate you either. I think Facebook is a great way to find old Friends and connect, but they are bloody awful when it comes to privacy and permission issues.

i agree with magpie. i hate the news feed and i have so many people updating stuff on their profiles it's annoying! also the application stuff is silly. it's so for the young high school kids.

I bought a movie ticket through Fandango and it showed up on my facebook page! I did not appreciate that! I didn't realize Facebook had such issues with privacy.

I'm glad apple isn't on there because I bought some Christmas gifts from apple that I don't want my fiancee to see. It's weird that joost is on there. Can you buy anything from joost? Maybe it posts what shows and channels you're watching.

this is crazy!! i don't buy anything from these sites but it still makes me nervous. i long for three years ago, when facebook was only for college students, and there was no minifeed, or any of those crazy myspace-like applications. now it just feels more and more like a stalkers paradise instead of a way to keep in touch with friends!
