It's time for me to discipline my kid the tough way! Why? I don't play that!
It seems like every day we hear about a video of a parent shaming their kids [1] for their misbehavior. One parent is fed up with these viral posts and posted his own message of how parenting should be done.
In a Facebook video shared over the weekend, Florida dad Wayman Gresham stands next to his son sitting in a chair and tells the camera, "I'm here to teach my son a lesson." He then speaks about what he's taught his son: "I don't teach him to mess up in school, I don't teach him to be a fool." After making it clear that his son has messed up, Gresham pretends like he's about to shave his son's head but instead asks him for a hug and lets him go.
Gresham then starts speaking to the camera about how parenting should work and that public shaming doesn't help. "There's no way in the world I would ever embarrass my son like that," he said. "Good parenting starts before he even gets to the point of being out of control." He continues voicing what good parenting is.
So far, the video has over 18 million views and over 500,000 shares. Gresham posted a follow-up message [2] on May 29, stating, "I am not against discipline! I am against public humiliation!" Commenters on the original post are mostly in favor of Gresham's message and applaud him for this action. Let us know what you think about Gresham's parenting advice by voting in our poll.
