Do Gadget-Pimped Hotels Entice You?

Lately I've been reading a lot about hotels attempting to spice up rooms with some technological edge or another. In New York, there's already a Pod Hotel, which comes fully equipped with iPod docking stations, free WiFi and LCD TVs. Hyatt hotels are also planning to add iPod-ready iHome clock radio speaker systems to guest rooms in its U.S., Canada and Caribbean properties. According to the International Herald Tribune, "the race is on for hotels to upgrade guest rooms with high-definition flat-screen TV's, iPod docking stations and a wider selection of programming like On Demand." Some are even introducing more movies, music and games, which are usually offered in higher-rate rooms. How do you feel about hotels boasting the latest gadgets and tech gear? Maybe you couldn't care less about gadgetry, but are always on the search for WiFi friendly hotels?

I stayed at the Hotel DeLuxe in Portland last month and loved that they have ipod docking stations. They also had pre-loaded ipods available in almost every genre for people who either don't have an ipod or didn't bring theirs. I wanted to request one just to see if I could discover some new bands while I was there. Very cool concept!

i take vacations to get away from it all (and that includes tv, computer, phone calls) i personally could not care less if my hotel has internet as long as its clean, not atrociously decorated, and (most importantly) has a comfy bed.

I love the idea myself. Staying at a hotel should be an indulgent treat, and enjoying the comforts of the latest in modern technology would only further the idea.

Although when I'm on vacation I also never stay in the hotel that long, mostly only for sleeping and showering, but I still love to come 'home' to a cool place full of gadgets :) :) :)

i'd love to say that those types of hotels would entice me, but alas - i am a poor student, so its mostly hostelling for me (except in india and china where "real" hotels are super cheap!). when i have the money, i'd be more into hotels with free wi-fi and all the extras, though.

Wow, never thought people would be so against it. It was awesome to fall asleep to my own music, or to take a shower listening to my own music. I like the Wifi and business centers to print out boarding passes or get quick maps if I have forgotten any. I am a visual person, so I have to google map everything. I don't spend much time in my hotel rooms, but you are in there, so when you are waiting for your boyfriend/girlfriend to get ready, your not sitting there with your thumb up your ass.

It would be nice to have a gadget-filled hotel room, but I'm more interested in sight-seeing the city, now trying out gadgets in the room.

I'd rather not spend that much time in the hotel, but while I'm there it would be nice to experience a techie treat. :)

Hotels for me are just a place to sleep at night. If I'm going somewhere, I'm going to explore the city, not stay in and watch tv.

i'm not impressed so much because when i travel, i try to stay in the hotel for the least amount of time. strictly for storage and sleeping.

If I want a get-away , I'd really get-away from the trappings of the world ....just pure, simple, idyllic , relaxing stay away from the "reminders" of the bustling daily grind. I envision myself in a tropical island , iin a bamboo cottage w/ a grass-thatched roof, bamboo log floors . But if it's business, of crse, I want the a high-tech equipped hotel.

I don't really care, unless I intend on bringing my work with me because when I'm on holiday, I don't plan on staying in my hotel room very much! I'd prefer to get out and do some sight-seeing, etc.!

Ooooo .. sounds like a really great hotel! Hotels should definitely have computer/printing/faxing areas at the very least!

I recently stayed at the James hotel in Chicago. It was so much nicer than your average hotel. Besides the free wireless, they had a flat panel tv with good cable and even a channel that played obscure scenes as background. They also had a stereo system that you could hook up your ipod to. I don't like to travel with my laptop due to another thing to carry, so they had a really nice computer area with printers and such. The next thing I want them to have is in room chargers so I don't have to remember to take them, or forget them in the hotels! I have read about the hotel chains updating and they sound really awesome. Who ever bought out amerisuites I think is doing this.
