Do You Get Your News From Twitter?

On a recent episode of The View, funnywoman Sherri Shepherd kept referring back to various news stories that she read on Twitter discussed with other tweeters in the twitterverse. Now I must admit, I'm guilty of heading straight to my Twitter page when I hear breaking news stories (especially when I heard about Michael Jackson's passing and then about Patrick Swayze on Monday — so sad), just to see if something is legitimately true. We already know that Whoopi steers clear of Twitter, but would you say you're a Twitter-news junkie like Sherri?

I hear about a lot of breaking news on twitter like celebrity deaths but also local things like if a controlled burn is being done in our town, mountain lion and bear sightings in my neighborhood, basically very local things that may not be on a news site. I suppose I am a news junkie though because I also go to legit sites as well esp. to check sources.

I read it on Twitter first, always. But then I usually go somewhere else to check it.

In the mornings, the first thing I do is read 3 news sites online - NY Times, CNN & SF Chronicle. But I really don't check back throughout the day so if something happens, I will most likely hear about it on Twitter.

I do absolutely. A lot of the time I read news first on Twitter. If I hear or see it elsewhere that isn't exactly reliable I go to Twitter to see what other people are saying.

I hear about most news on twitter. But if a regular person tweets the story without a link or RT from some reputable news media account, I google it and/or check

I don't necessarily goto Twitter to find out if something is true, as I'm already usually on Twitter via TweetDeck when I first find out about a story that I might be interested in, as one of the columns I have open is Twitscoop, which covers the trending topics, and does very well when it comes to that, therefore, if I see something that warrants further investigation, I click on it....

You go to Twitter to see if something is legitimately true? That seems odd to me.
