Do You Use the Internet as Your Cookbook?

Though I'm the first person to screech "Google it!" I definitely still hit the books when I need a recipe: the Joy of Cooking, anyway. But if it's not in there, I have my laptop open in the time it takes to preheat the oven.

Nothing beats the endless recipe compilation that's the Internet — in fact, if you don't have a few go-to places (mine are Yum and the Food Network's site), it can be downright overwhelming trying to find a simple recipe.

At a time when even Whole Foods has an iPhone app and it's easier than ever to geekify your kitchen, technology seems key to becoming a top chef. Of course, there are many traditionalists who don't trust the web for their recipe needs and stick, loyally, to cookbooks. Do you use the Internet for your recipe needs?

i love how beautiful cook books are but i use cd kitchen as my main cookbook. i look up my recipes, print out the shopping lists and review the things i like. you can adjust the servings instantly and i haven't found a site i like more. i also store my recipes in my online file cabinet.

I swear by allrecipes however, if I want to make something standard and just need a refresher, i'll dig out my cookbooks.

I don't even get cookbooks anymore, nor do I browse the ones I have. I'm all about using the internets. I'm a food blogger myself, so I read other blogs and blog my own. I love it. Down with print cookbooks!

I like cookbooks, but the internet has its perks. Since I don't cook much, I like that on (favorite recipe site!) you can read reviews. That way I don't waste my time making something that isn't going to turn out, or through the reviews I know what to tweak to make it great.

Yep! I use The recipes are not complicated and don't require you to buy bizarre ingredients that you'll never use again! We have a number of regular meals that we'll cook from bbc good food now. =) I do have quite a collection of cookbooks but honestly, I don't use them a lot. Maybe as a reference but the recipes in them are so silly. I mean, who has half of those things in their cupboard or wants to buy them to have wastage later?

I am a member of and love it. I maintain my recipes on that site and can get custom nutritionals as well, great for helping me plan diabetic-friendly meals. My favorite part is the complex filtering, but my non-tech friends find it complicated.
