This is so true! I don't have a facebook or myspace account because of the fact that it's faux socializing to me.

couldn't this be said of so many social networking sites or just plain chats in general. I mean I met my fiance online in a chat rom and for the longest time people said that it wasn't real friendship or real love because we weren't face to face. While I have to say this is definitely not the only way a person should have contact with the outside world I think you can have real friendships online if that's what you are looking for. The problem seems to be that people are looking for instant gratification through these sites and in that way I would agree that it is a lot like masturbation.

Spot on, Geek, spot on. I've been saying this since the first day people were signing up for these silly social sites. It is not socializing, it is not keeping up with "friends" it's all a big facade!

i agree...facebook has become the only means of contact to the outside world for many people which is very very sad i feel sorry for those people... a solution? Use the damn phone!

It's true! haha Facebook is fake socialization. Masturbation is fake sex. You are able to communicate through facebook and get the end result, but it's not as satisfying as face-to-face contact.

haha! I'd accept that. You're sooo close. I mean you're getting the technicaclities of socliazing: communication, jokes, showing each other pictures via facebook but still missing one very important aspect that can change the entire experience! i.e. laughing with someone in person is much more uplifting than "haha" "lolol" "rofl". Expression will always be lost in online communications.
