First Foursquare Checkin From the North Pole to Raise Eco Awareness

15 Year Old Checks In on Foursquare From the North Pole

Is this the most elusive Foursquare badge ever? While most of his peers are undoubtedly trying to achieve notoriety with badges like "Zoetrope" (10 movie theater check-ins) and "Pizzaolo" (20 pizzeria check-ins), 15-year-old Parker Liautaud became the first Foursquare user to check in at the North Pole. The check-in was part of Liautaud's larger effort to raise awareness toward environmental destruction, and was sponsored in part by General Electric.

He set out to be one of the youngest explorers to ski to the North Pole, but weather conditions made it impossible during the final days. Luckily he was able to finish the last leg of the trip by helicopter, allowing him to check in on Foursquare and receive the "Last Degree" badge, which reads, "Congrats on making it to the North Pole! Take a deep breath, plant your flag, and be sure to get home safe!" I'm guessing this Foursquare badge is probably the hardest to achieve, and I'm curious how many others will attempt a similar feat. Congratulations, Parker, on your achievement and efforts to raise awareness.

PS, Do you have an iPhone? Because if AT&T has service at the North Pole while it's spotty in my neighborhood, I'm going to be a little upset.
