If you were sitting around waiting for the next jaw-dropping GIF of space [1], your wait is over. NASA just released an incredible GIF [2] of the moon crossing in front of the Earth. It's particularly special not only because it captures the unique connection between the two but also because it shows "the fully illuminated 'dark side' of the moon that is never visible from Earth," NASA says.
The images were taken on July 16 by a camera on the DSCOVR satellite that's one million miles from Earth — its primary mission is to track real-time solar wind for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Look closely and you'll notice the moon moving over the Pacific Ocean, with the North Pole in the upper left corner of the image.
Wow.
