Are Gadgets The Reason You're Sleeping Alone?

Are Gadgets The Reason You're Sleeping Alone?

Techie Diva Gina Hughes recently alerted me to an alarming study that found 67 percent of American women have sleeping problems, and 75 percent of all adults wake in the night or snore, but another reason your partner is sleeping on the couch might be attributed to your constant connection to your office.

Essentially, the study-takers believe an increase of email and text messaging in the bedroom are two reasons couples say they prefer to sleep alone.

I have a few friends who have instituted strict no TV, PDAs or laptop policies in the bedroom, but I haven't been able to impose one myself. Wrong or not, I've convinced myself I need access to my e-mail around the clock.

I don't sleep alone - I have my laptop with me. I've just had one for so many years that it's sort of migrated to my bed with me. I tried to break the habit when I went to college (smaller beds - less room- and roommates), but it didn't work.

I've totally segregated my bedroom from non-bedroom activities! We rarely watch TV in bed, either. Much nicer, too.

I don't take the laptop into the bedroom, but my fiance does complain that I spend more time on it than I do with him, lol. He's right, my Mac is my addiction. :P

I've also read that having a television in the bedroom affects the amount of sexual intimacy in a relationship: "A study has found that couples who have a TV set in their bedroom have sex half as often as those who don't." (http://tvnz.co.nz/view/page/650268) My fiance and I each have our own offices and our gadgets don't enter the bedroom. Granted, there are nights when we both hide in our offices trying to get work done, but the bedroom is our electronics-free haven.

It never occured to me to check my email while I'm in bed. Does the study count people who have computer desks in their bedrooms and surf while their partner is trying to sleep, or people who sit up all night in bed with their laptop?

That's why my boyfriend and I decided that we will never have a tv in our bedroom. Or any other stuff like video games or computers, minus the iPod alarm clock of course!

I don't conduct any business in the bedroom just because. I live alone now, but when I am married, I hope I have not gotten addicted to blackberries, etc, and if I have, i will rememb erto try and turn it off till morning. I can't imagine getting married and then not sleeping with my man. no cuddling? no thanks!

I noticed now that I live with my boyfriend, I get less sleep during the night than when I was alone. (well my dog did keep me up on some nights.)
