Geek Out: Video Game Arcade Date Memories

I'm tingling for tonight's return of How I Met Your Mother — even though I'm most psyched to see what happens with Barney and Robin (remember his geeky reaction to their one night stand?), I'm also curious to see if Stella accepts Ted's marriage proposal.

From the looks of this photo, all I can say is that if they're in a video game arcade, all signs point to yes! Video game arcades remain for me, the most romantic places ever. As a youngun, my first dates (or casual hangouts, if someone was too scared to ask specifically for a date) were at arcades, because it was one of the few parent-approved places you could go as a pre-teen.

Once inside, things got awesomer: you played adrenaline-pumping games together, cheered each other on at shoot-'em-up games, and if things went really well, you rode in those two-seater "ride to Mars" games. So tell me: do you have any old video game arcade date memories?

I was never a big arcade fan (I mostly suck at video games) but I do have a very fond, very geeky memory from an arcade birthday party my brother had when we were kids. I was maybe 8 or 9. There was a big screen "video jukebox" there, which was quite novel at the time. I remember very vividly what song we chose, without irony. "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley. We were rick rollin' before it was cool.

Old video arcade memories? We're in our 20's and are still making new ones! Any co-op game is fun to play together, and then poke fun at whoever dies first! The booths where it takes pictures of each of you and then, by the awesome power of Dave and Buster's genetic machinery, creates a photo of your love child....those are always hilarious!

i never really cared for the arcade; the one by my house was at a bowling alley, we were hanging out there, and the boy i liked kissed me while i leaned against the pinball machine and my best friend was right next to me - cheesy i know, but it was my first kiss... i always thought it be more romantica than that, but oh well! what can i do? je, je.

I used to go to the arcade with my first boyfriend, Michael, to play Mortal Kombat 3. We used to pass notes in class with fatality cheat sheets, so we could study them and go back to the arcade later to kick each other's butts. Oh, good times! Plus my husband & I go to Dave & Busters or other arcades on dates. I'm sure that counts right? Even if it's more contemporary than nostalgic.
