Have You Used a Public Charging Station?

I had a layover at the Dallas–Fort Worth International Airport last week and was struck by an enormous Powerport charging station that seemed like it could solve any gadget woe under the sun. The station recharged PDAs, cell phones, iPods, and cameras, offered laptop rentals (by the hour), and even allowed you to check your device's battery before getting on the plane. It was certainly a step above the Burger King–charging stations in the Philippines, but I couldn't help but wonder if the machine was an untapped (albeit fancy-looking) resource, or if people actually used it on a regular basis.

I have used it. It is very convenient when you forgot to bring the chargers, just a bit too costly. Recently my friend bought a small mutli travel charger from Ionhub. It is great and can charge 6 things at once, like phones, iPod, PDAs, PSP, DS, cameras and batteies, even elec razors. I bought one as well. These guys are very nice. It is so small and light, I will never forget to bring it with me.

I haven't seen ones like this in airports, however I have heard of these such devices even being used in portable methods. Ones where you place your electronic equipment on a plate-like platform that is able to recharge your device.

I've never even heard of or seen such a thing. But I'm sure it would come in quite handy at times!

I charge my stuff before leaving and if it's not charged I think I'd go without before I pay that fee. That or pull out my charger and use an outlet.

I guess I would use one if I really needed a quick charge... But I tend to make sure I'm fully charge before leaving the house.

I've seen the cordless kind. You just set your items to charge on the cords and you can put multiple items in one chamber. Not sure if this type of charging works for the DS.

I always just use the outlets. You can usually find one. Is that wrong?

I'm so used to charging everything when I need it that I don't really need something like this. But on my last flight with my family, my brother used it and he said it was very useful (especially if you forget to charge something important like a cell phone).

I have been in need of when when I usually forget my charger at a hotel. Doh! or I run my DS dry because I am waiting for my delayed flight. $4.50? Thats a venti mocha frap!

I'm not like a jetsetter or a business woman with loads-o-airmiles. If I was constantly rushing about, I could see the need for this. But when I fly, it's a special occasion and I'm prepared - with all of my gadgetry charged up to the max.

I charged my laptop before at an airport but it was free....I just looked for an outlet that was compatible to my charger. But for an international airport, I'm surprised it didn't have a power station like that.

I've seen them on occasion but never needed to use one! Kind of expensive...especially considering that I would probably be too rushed for time to get $5 worth of battery charge!!

I've never seen one, but I don't really think it's worth it. Besides there are random outlets there, so take your charger.

I used them a couple of times and they were like less than 2 bucks from where I lived...4.50 seems too expensive!

No, I charge my stuff before I leave.

I didn't even know those existed! Wow. $4.50 seems a little much, but then, it'd be a small price to pay to have music on an overseas flight.
