Helio Closing Doors And Selling Out To Virgin?

Should We Say Sayonara to Helio? Maybe Not Just Yet

Rumors were swirling this week about the future of Helio. Two to be exact. First, that the Mobile Virtual Network Operator will be closing all of its retail stores in preparation of a buyout by Virgin Mobile, and that we should expect an official announcement this week of the final takeover. I contacted my local Helio store to get the details and although the number to the store was invalid (strange), after being connected through customer service, I was assured that Helio wasn't going anywhere.

And in a final attempt to kick the rumors to the curb, SK Telecom (Helio's parent company) released a statement yesterday, calling the rumors "groundless" and they are sticking by Helio till the death. However, SK Telecom did say that Helio and Virgin were in "early talks" on a deal for the US market. So just to stay on the safe side, maybe you should hold off on those plans to swoop up the new iPhone and bow out of your Helio contract (ETF free) for just a while longer!

the merge with helio and virgin may be the beginning of a great new company in the wireless industry in the U.S. as we already know, helio have advanced handsets even with the lack of subscribers (not alot people know about it ) but with the merge with virgin maybe it will be exciting to see what kind of technology SK telecom comes out with since their are more subscribers / customers

The Ocean was a pretty versatile phone; it had messaging nailed down, 3G, and GPS enabled google maps. All of which the iphone is juuuuust getting. Heck, I can even upload videos directly to youtube and the iphone still doesn't capture video. But anyways MVNO's are expensive to maintain, I hope Helio dies an excruciating death and I can get out of my contract without suffering an ETF. Their customer service was beyond horrible.

Helio and Virgin Mobile both use Sprint's network anyway, so I don't see what kind of problems would arise from an acquisition or merger. Virgin Mobile would have to be incredibly idiotic to mess with Helio's phones or plans.

My ex-boyfriend had a Helio and loved it... but when two of my best friends got them, they're both so disppointed. 2-3 times a week, their internet will stop working. I thought about switching over, but now that Sprint offers a similar plan ($99 for everything), I'll probably just upgrade my phone.

My boyfriend and I both have Helio Oceans and we'd both be super bummed if Helio goes away. It has many of the same functions as the iPhone and we get many services for a great price.
