Homeless People Reading Mean Tweets Will Break Your Heart

Apr 3 2015 - 10:14am

Imagine being ignored by passersby, longing for somebody to meet your eyes instead of pretending that you don't exist, only to realize that those people turn around and tell the world that you're worthless. That's exactly what happens in this PSA about homelessness from the Canadian nonprofit Raising the Roof [1], as it shows people struggling with homelessness while they read atrocious tweets about themselves.

Following the same formula as Jimmy Kimmel's hugely successful Celebrities Read Mean Tweets [2] series, this video has a far more upsetting premise. "If home is where the heart is, does that mean homeless people are heartless?" reads one woman, who replies tearfully: "Far from it."

While the video is certainly a tearjerker, it's also a bit cringeworthy. Why subject these people to unnecessary pain for the sake of an advertisement? Let us know how you feel about the advertisement in our poll.
