If you were ever mesmerized by holograms as a child, then you know they can be pretty complicated to create. Luckily, Imgur user EricCasavant found a way [1] to make these cool light fields that doesn't require a 50-page instruction manual. All you need are a smartphone, some tape, plastic, and two minutes of your time. Without any knowledge of tech at all, anyone can easily create their own hologram by following the instructions ahead.

Step 1

Cut four trapezoids out of plastic packaging (or a CD case, which you will need a knife or glass cutter for).

Step 2

Tape the edges together.

Step 3

Go on YouTube from your phone and find a hologram video like this one [2]. Then place your plastic creation on top of your phone.

Voilà! Instant hologram.
