At this year's New York Comic-Con, one attendee's X-Men-inspired cosplay stole the show by looking like a walking optical illusion. For her look, Rebecca Lindsay [2] dressed as Mystique in the franchise's Days of Future Past — without donning the usual, exposed blue bodysuit.

In Cosplay in America, Rebecca shared how she was able to create the costume [3] that combined Mystique's blue state and her disguised look as an army general. "I used an army costume from eBay and a cheap-o body suit from Amazon," she said. "We just cut off the extra and sewed the uniform on top of the blue." She also added that the blue sequins helped cover up the seams.

An Instagram photo of the cosplay currently has more than 14,000 "likes." Similarly, Rebecca's collection of photos from that day [4] has more than 1,000 shares and 2,000 reactions on Facebook.

Though cosplay is an impressive year-round passion [5] for attendees of Comic-Con and beyond, Halloween is a great time for people who don't usually cosplay to get inspired by these inventive ideas. Look ahead for a close-up shot of Rebecca's complex cosplay.
