Photography Tip: Keep a Tripod Handy

Although you may not need a tripod for your on-the-go photo sessions, it's a good idea to keep one on-hand for those instances when you need a steadier shot, want to try your hand at long-exposures, or to snap a few self portraits (and don't want to risk handing your expensive camera to a stranger). Tripods come in all sizes, but the Joby Gorillapod ($20 and up) gives you the function of a full-fledged model, but with superior portability. The Gorillapod flexes and bends to attach to almost any structure — fences, trees, doors, railings handlebars — and will even grip to metals with the magnetic version. The best part is, the Gorillapod can accommodate almost any model of point-and-shoot, DSLR, SLR, video camera and even your iPhone. Just toss one in your camera bag and go!

May is National Photography Month, and in honor of the occasion I'm serving up a different photography tip, trick, or app every weekday in May, so please share your successful shots! Our Cool Capture group is not only a place to post your favorite pics, but you could also win a CanvasPop Print in our Cool Capture contest!
